YK-11
What is YK-11?
'YK-11, also known as myostine, is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that has been clinically shown to partially activate the androgen receptor while simultaneously functioning as a myostatin inhibitor.'
Research and properties
A study by Lee et al. investigated YK-11 as a potential agent for muscle building and muscle preservation in sepsis situations. In the study, mice were administered two different doses of YK-11 for ten days (orally, 350 mg/kg and 700 mg/kg), after which they were exposed to a peritoneal injection of E. coli bacteria.
The research showed that YK-11 inhibits the action of myostatin — a hormone that limits muscle growth (source). Treated mice maintained their body mass during illness and had a more favorable fat-to-muscle ratio compared to the control group.
"After exposure to systemic E. coli, the treated mice were able to better recover muscle mass in their back and thighs. Moreover, their muscle cells were more resistant to atrophy."
Effects on immune response and organs
"In addition to effects on muscle mass, YK-11 also had an impact on the immune response. Treatment resulted in a decrease in endotoxins and inflammatory markers in the lungs. Biomarkers for organ damage — such as AST, ALT, and BUN — were also reduced."
"The elimination of harmful bacteria from organs was improved in mice treated with YK-11 (source), and the survival rate after sepsis was found to be higher up to the 72-hour mark."
