STENABOLIC SR-9009
SR9009, also known as Stenabolic, has been studied in mice and shown to increase gait speed, reduce obesity levels and stimulate mitochondrial production. This improves muscle mass and metabolism.
Although SR-9009 is often associated with selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs), it functions through several pathways. It's actually a Rev-ErbA agonist—a nuclear receptor reverse viral erythroblastosis oncogene product alpha agonist—found in the liver, skeletal muscle, and brain. It is best known for its role in influencing circadian rhythm.
SR-9009 and Weight Loss
In a study conducted by Solt et al., mice were treated with SR-9009 or saline injections twice daily while fed a high-fat diet (consisting of 60% fat and 20% carbohydrates). The aim of the study was to assess whether SR-9009 could aid weight loss in cases of diet-induced obesity (source).
It turned out that due to the stress of twice-daily injections, both groups of mice lost body fat. However, the mice treated with SR-9009 lost 60% more fat than the mice treated with saline injections. In addition, significant reductions were reported in plasma triglycerides (12%), total cholesterol (47%), plasma glucose levels (19%), leptin (80%), and inflammatory cytokines (72%) in the mice treated with SR-9009 (source).
SR-9009 and Bone Density
In another interesting study conducted by Song et al., 12-week-old female mice were housed in a research laboratory under a strict 12-hour light and dark schedule and given free access to food and water. Forty mice were divided into groups that underwent either complete ovariectomy or sham surgery. After the procedure, the mice were injected with different doses of SR-9009 (source).
Overall, the results of this study indicated that supplementation with SR-9009 inhibited the differentiation of osteoclast formation in mice, suggesting that there was less bone breakdown after supplementation. In addition, in the female mice that underwent an oophorectomy to mimic postmenopausal bone breakdown, SR-9009 supplementation was found to increase the number of bone trabeculae in the femur and tibia. Bone volume and tissue were also found to be increased by a factor of 1,550, 1,701, or 1,601 when administered doses of 30, 50, or 100 mg/kg of SR-9009, respectively (source).
