RAD-150 (TBL 150)
RAD 150: The Esterified Version of RAD 140
RAD 150, also known as TLB 150, is the esterified form of the much talked about SARM RAD-140. Originally, RAD-140 was extensively studied in male gonadectomized rats that showed signs of neurodegenerative disorders due to reduced androgen levels.
A landmark study conducted by Jayaramen et al. concluded that RAD 140 supplementation had neuroprotective effects in male rats, primarily through MAPK signaling pathways. The study also showed that RAD 140 was almost as effective as testosterone in protecting against cell death. In addition to these neuroprotective properties, RAD 140 produced an average weight gain of 10% over 28 days in young monkeys. DEXA scans confirmed that this increase was mainly in lean muscle mass.
Process of esterification
Esterification is a substitution reaction in which a hydroxyl group (-OH) of a carboxylic acid is replaced by an alkyl group (-O-). This process occurs when exposed to heat and a strong acid, usually sulfuric acid. In certain cases, other strong acids such as hydrochloric acid can also be used to catalyze the reaction.
Difference between RAD 140 and RAD 150
RAD 150 differs from RAD 140 by the addition of benzoate esters during the esterification process. This addition increases the alkalinity and stability of the compound. The esterified form, RAD 150, also has higher bioavailability and a longer half-life than its non-esterified counterpart, RAD 140. This suggests that the esterification adds additional benefits to the compound. This way, RAD 150 is absorbed faster and remains active in the body for longer.
